New Member of the Family!

Recently, I had been craving from a cuddly little critter to occupy our home. Most respectable couples thoughts go straight to a kitten or a puppy; not my husband and I. Our brains steer in a completely different direction.

You see, we currently have two sugar gliders that we've had for three years now. They were perfect apartment pets because they mostly live in a cage and aren't noisy. We didn't have to worry too much about them having accidents on the floor, ruining the walls or furnature, or having to let them out during the day. Now that my husband and I bought a house, we've found ourselves with loads of free space and a nice back yard. Our possiblities were endless in the, "What animal could we buy?" market! It was almost overwhelming.

Now, I'm more of a cat person than a dog person. I had recently volunteered at a cat shelter and let me tell you, that was SO hard to walk out of there without bringing atleast five of them home with me! I thought that a cat would love our home. Tons of room to roam around and loads of love that we could give him or her. Sadly, my husband had expressed some concerns with a preditor kitty eating or atleast terrifying our sugar gliders. "They were here first!" he claimed. After mulling it over a bit, I started to think he was right.

What animal would fit both of our needs? Something cuddly for me, something that wouldn't eat the gliders, and something that wouldn't need to be let outside all of the time.

I came up with two conclusions:
A) A Rabbit
B) A Skunk

After months of deliberation with my husband and family members, we had decided to go the rabbit route. I looked through all of the breeds to find one that would fit our needs. One that's quiet, one that's active but not extremely hyper and most of all, cuddly! After rifling through loads of rabbit breeds, one stuck out from all the rest: The Flemish Giant!

If you've never heard of the Flemish Giant breed, I emplore you to check them out! They hit every mark on our "Must Have" list for a pet. Extremely quiet, semi active but mostly laid back and extremely chill, fluffy, and cuddly! The best quality that struck us as the best was their ENORMOUS SIZE! These are one of the largest breed of rabbit. How can you not instantly fall in love with them! Needless to say, many Monty Python jokes flew through my mind. LOOK AT THE BONES!

On April 14th 2011, we adopted a six month old Fawn Flemish Giant buck!

Say hello to Solaris the bun!
